Asbestos Awareness Training
Asbestos was once a trusted material used in construction. Its fibers added strength and versatility, and it was applauded because of its fire-resistant qualities. Asbestos was used for its ability to be an insulator. The material can be found in pipe insulation, floor tiles, cement, shingles, and spray-on fireproofing. It occurs naturally, and there are six different types, according to the EPA: chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, anthophylite, and actinolite.
The problem with the material is that each of these subtypes of asbestos is carcinogenic, or cancer-causing agent. The first ban on the material occurred in the U.S. in 1977. By 1989, it had been banned in just about all types of construction use. Buildings that were constructed prior to this time still possess the harmful material within them, and exposure to asbestos can cause terrible diseases like mesothelioma, a cancer that usually affects the lungs.
The EPA emphasizes and provides Asbestos Awareness Training in order to keep workers and occupants safe. There are different types of training that takes place in order to prepare someone to properly deal with asbestos. In order to prevent workers or even homeowners from being exposed, enabling them to safely remove asbestos-containing material (ACM) is key, and Asbestos Awareness Training will consist of background information on asbestos, as well as its health effects and where it is found in buildings.
Quest Consultants & Associates, Inc. offers an on-line Asbestos Awareness Training for those who are working in environments where asbestos can be found.
Class C UST Operator Training
An Underground Storage Tank (UST) is a tank with at least 10 percent of its combined volume stored underground. Operators of these tanks are needed at gas stations, where underground tanks are used for storing the many gallons of gas. Gas is highly flammable and the EPA mandates safety regulations in order to keep the customers and the workers safe.
UST Operators need to be able to properly check a site, and be able to correct leaks, spills, and overflows. They also need to be familiar with and be able to follow the rules and regulations implemented by the EPA, maintain the required records, and perform for corrosion and leaks. Class C Operators at fueling stations must be able to identify dispensers, hoses, nozzles, breakaway couplings, and emergency equipment.
Responding to an emergency situation is one of the most important jobs of the operator. The ability to stop the release of the product, call the appropriate authorities for help, identify any further hazards, and contain what product was released can help save lives. That is why it’s so important for operators to be trained properly.
Quest Consultants & Associates, Inc. offers on-line Class C UST Operator Training to ensure that fueling stations are manned by an on-site employee who has an adequate knowledge of the facility, is able to recognize the warning signs of a potential leak or failure, and respond to emergencies and leaks.
